Dr. Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling GG Alte Reben - 2022 (750ml)
This wine is harvested from our oldest parcels of Erdener Treppchen, where steady winds keep the clusters dry and prevent the onset of harmful molds. This allows for an exceptionally long hang time, giving the grapes extraordinary aromatic development. The wine is fermented spontaneously in a 1,000-liter barrel and sits on the full lees for twelve months.

Intensely spicy and flinty nose with stacks of anise and fennel seed character. High tensile strength on the palate, although it is only medium-bodied. Great wet stone minerality and herbal intensity at the extremely long focused finish. Drinkable from release, but best from 2024. —S.P.

The 2022 Riesling Erdener Treppchen Alte Reben Grosses Gewächs was purchased in 1993, just above the Prälat site, higher in elevation. The exact age of the vines is unknown, but they are estimated to have been planted in the 1880s. Tangerine is hauntingly hinted at on the nose; the palate brings lasting allure of tangerine, peel and pulp, intense and headily aromatic, yet grounded, profound, super clear, luminous with citrus aroma, and so vivid. Loosen's 2022 Erdener Treppchen GG Alte Reben shows clear, bright and finely spicy slate fruit. On the palate, it is dense and juicy and develops lots of pressure and very good length. On the finish, it is pure, spicy and salty. Here, the old vines and the soil have served well in the dryness of the summer.
